Back in the ’60s and ’70s; after a few heartbreaking losses in big games to Packers, Colts, and Browns, the blue “home jerseys” were considered bad luck. Even though the home team has a choice of dark or light jersey color (most teams choose their dark color), they have for a long time allowed the Cowboys to wear their white.

Cowboys lost a lot of big games wearing their blues back in the 60’s and early 70’s (Ice Bowl, Super Bowl V, etc.). They were considered unlucky, so Dallas went to the whites as their home colors. The Redskins started doing it just so Dallas would have to wear the unlucky blues when they came to town. True story!

It is very hot in Dallas for day games in September and October. Forcing their opponents to wear dark uniforms that absorb the sun while they wear white uniforms that reflect the sun gives the Cowboys a competitive advantage.

It goes back to the Tom Landry/Tex Schramm days.

Browns inthe 50s whites to make the players look larger
Some of the other teams adapted to this concept.

    That is it. Superstition

As a cowboys fan it is sad to say I do not know the answer to that. I know years back their dark blues were considered bad luck and every time they wore those dark blues they would lose. But I don’t know if that has anything to do with why they wear white. The dark blue curse is not so strong anymore but whoa back then it was something else.
